Make your short notes for IITJEE

Revision is a very important part of preparation for any competitive exam. Without a proper revision strategy, all your hard work may not ultimately bear the expected fruits. Your own notes is a handy tool for quick revision (the revision strategy where you just revise the main concepts of the chapter and a few concept clearing questions and do not read the entire chapter again). So what are the main things that should be kept in mind while making notes? Let’s explore the answer in the following paragraphs.

There are mainly two types of short notes: type I: the one that you make when you read a chapter for the first time (when still some concepts are not very clear) and type II: when you make the notes while revising a chapter (when almost all the concepts are clear and you have solved all the questions of the chapter and you have clear idea of the important topics of the chapter).

In first case you have not solved the problems yet so your notes should be such that while solving problems, you can refer to them to recollect some concept or understand it more clearly. You can make the type I notes either in the book itself or in a separate sheet or a combination of both. I used to mark in books and wherever I felt that more paper is required, I just attached a thin sheet of paper in the book only. Use pencil to put question marks at paragraphs/lines which are not clear to you in first reading and try to get them cleared later on by discussing with your friends/teachers. Firstly read a paragraph completely and then underline/mark the important lines in it. Draw box around lines which carry some concept. While solving problems, just mark the questions which you feel have taught you some new concept/require some trick. While your quick revision, just focus on these questions. You can use the margin at the borders of the pages to mark your comments in the book.

I used three different colored pens for marking. Blue for some simple concept, red for something which I thought was very important and must be mastered whereas I used green for underlining the lines which I felt was to be memorized. So I used to draw green colored boxes around the formulas given in the books (as they are meant to be memorized).

The type II notes (made during revision) will be discussed elaborately in article on Final Revision strategy. - See more at: http://www.leadiit.com/iit-jee/article.aspx?title=Make-your-short-notes&&id=9#sthash.gUOvvdTL.dpuf
